I've been cheating with length in a few cascades, so I decided I needed to do a proper drabble, to exercise my word skills and try and get the whole moment into just the 100 words. I hope I've succeeded.

The Last Cage

Fine draperies, beautiful prison, but it remained a cage. Jonah stretched his wings, glad at least that the clamps were gone after the long journey. Locked in the latest of a long line of cages he had endured since his capture, he waited for his newest owner to arrive.
“Hello.”
Jonah glanced around rapidly, disbelieving his ears, pulse increasing. So long ago, but his mind skipped back to heady days on the plains: flying high, body to body, free! A silhouette stepped in front of the window, wings unfurled. Recognition, loss, relief took him and Jonah fell to his knees.

A reunion and yet he's still a slave? Something he did or didn't do during the loved and lost cycle?
