FB3X Drabble Cascade #83 - word of the week is 'wick' (a chance to test and share your writing skills)

Fantasy Boys XXX Drabble Cascade

Welcome to FB3X Drabble Cascade #83 - This week's word of the week is 'wick'.

Suitable for all.
The Way A Cascade Works

it's really very simple, be inspired by our word of the week and just write :).

To see this week's entries check out the list at the bottom of this post. We put it behind a cut so it doesn't clog up your scrolling.

A drabble is a work of 100 words exactly. Flash fiction is a work of up to 500 words. Both may be submitted to the cascade. So What Can You Write? The simple answer is - anything! Our work here on FB3X will be erotically themed. but feel free to take the inspiration any way you want to, fiction, fanfiction, non-fiction, meta, since variety is the spice of life!

To those struck by inspiration (and no you don't have to be a professional writer to join in, anyone can embrace their inner author):
  • Below you will find a chance to join in the cascade in the form of a linked list
    • Write a drabble/flash fiction inspired by the word of the week.
    • Post the fiction to your own blog, social media, or website
    • Then insert a link into the linked list to that drabble/flash fiction for everyone to find (A hint of the genre of your drabble/flash fiction in the title of your post would be appreciated.), e.g. A Little Bit of Fun (PG, Science Fiction)
    • To encourage your friends to join in and hence cascade the fun, you can also add the list into your own post by copying the code.
  • OR you can just write us something in the comments :)
For folks who enjoy reading drabbles/flash fiction: you can then peruse the cascade to your heart's content :).

AND NOW - on to the fiction :)

Fishing (PG, m/m, Fantasy)

Author's Note
When I read 'wick', I thought of the little glass bowls with coloured oil and a string wick. That morphed into this.

~

Devlan knelt at the edge of the pool. Taking a deep breath, he slid his hands into the glistening water. The water’s icy touch leached slowly up his arms like oil up a wick, but he persisted, closing his eyes, sensing the natural power all around.

A touch, smooth and fleeting, brushed the underside of Devlan’s fingers. Instantly, he curled them under, catching that touch in his own, and leant backwards. His arms strained with the water’s resistance, but he kept pulling.

Suddenly the tension broke. Devlan fell backwards, water swooshing. He smiled as damp body landed over his legs.

 I Believe (PG, m/m, Fantasy)
by Natasha Duncan-Drake

Author's Note
I didn't know wick could be used as a verb, but I looked it up and it can, so I did :). I hope you enjoy the drabble and thanks for reading.

Lance shivered as the cold hit his damp clothes. Only moments before he had been hot and sweating, but the cloth had wicked all the moisture from his skin and chilled in the air at the top of the pyramid.

There was so much magic here, dangerous and wild; all of it surrounding his best friend. Sarn had absorbed it, held it on the journey, but now it was free. It would consume them all without some control.

Stepping up, he put his arms around Sarn and leant into him.

"I love you," he said though the maelstrom, "I believe."

  1. How did that happen, I don't remember posting my Drabble from school but I guess I must have. Interesting that I can't access Live Journal but Dreamwidth and here I can. *shrugs* If someone did it for me... thank you.

  2. Sophie: who and what is that damp body Devlan pulled from the cold chill water?
Tasha: Pyramid power? *grins* The whole world consumed or just Lance and Sam from the magic that Sam had gathered and held until they reached the top? Sometimes all it takes is someone telling you that you can do it. Doesn't hurt if they also give you a reason to try harder either.

    1. Ah, now in there lies the question ;P - this may sound bizarre, but in my head he's on a blind date that his cousin set up for him, and he had to help his date transition from water to land with his touch. So his date is a merman, but without the whole Hans Christian Andersen self sacrifice nonsense :)

    2. Cheerleaders are important people :) Oh, definitely the whole world, it wouldn't be epic if it wasn't the whole world ;)
