FB3X Drabble Cascade #127 - word of the week is 'slink' (a chance to test and share your writing skills)

Fantasy Boys XXX Drabble Cascade

Welcome to FB3X Drabble Cascade #127 - This week's word of the week is 'slink'.

Suitable for all.
The Way A Cascade Works

it's really very simple, be inspired by our word of the week and just write :).

To see this week's entries check out the list at the bottom of this post. We put it behind a cut so it doesn't clog up your scrolling.

A drabble is a work of 100 words exactly. Flash fiction is a work of up to 500 words. Both may be submitted to the cascade. So What Can You Write? The simple answer is - anything! Our work here on FB3X will be erotically themed. but feel free to take the inspiration any way you want to, fiction, fanfiction, non-fiction, meta, since variety is the spice of life!

To those struck by inspiration (and no you don't have to be a professional writer to join in, anyone can embrace their inner author):
  • Below you will find a chance to join in the cascade in the form of a linked list
    • Write a drabble/flash fiction inspired by the word of the week.
    • Post the fiction to your own blog, social media, or website
    • Then insert a link into the linked list to that drabble/flash fiction for everyone to find (A hint of the genre of your drabble/flash fiction in the title of your post would be appreciated.), e.g. A Little Bit of Fun (PG, Science Fiction)
    • To encourage your friends to join in and hence cascade the fun, you can also add the list into your own post by copying the code.
  • OR you can just write us something in the comments :)
For folks who enjoy reading drabbles/flash fiction: you can then peruse the cascade to your heart's content :).

AND NOW - on to the fiction :)

Flight of Fire (Part 35) (PG, m/m, Fantasy)
by Sophie Duncan

Author's Note
I'm trying to do something a little different this year. For those of you who don't know, unless it's a week inspired by a holiday, or memorable occasion, our word of the week is picked by opening up a dictionary to a random location, waving a finger about without looking at the page and pointing it to a word, i.e. it's chance. So, this year, rather than standalone drabbles, I am going to try writing a coherent story, Flight of Fire, in 100 word episodes, each one inspired by the word of the week. I have a vague outline for characters and direction of Flight of Fire, but specifics will be decided by the word of the week.

Slink isn't the word I would have used for this section if I had been left t my own devices, but it suffices nicely for the angle I wanted to take.

Stephan slunk away as Reynaulght bent his head down to Benedict. He turned away, listening jealously to the dragon’s soft snuffling as he closed the kitchen door behind him. His heart sank through the floor as he crossed back to his small cot and he sat down heavily.

Only as Stephan put his head into his hands did he realise he was shaking with leftover magic running through his body. He took in deep breaths, but his sorcery was running its course without him, in time with his disappointment. Unsure of himself, he could only grit his teeth and wait.

The Spy Game (PG m/m fantasy)
by Natasha Duncan-Drake

Author's Note
Not sure where this one came from. Originally it was going to be all serious and then it turned out vaguely humorous, so who knows what I was thinking :) I very much hope you enjoy it.

Kan watched as Dill slunk around the room full of guests, appearing at people's elbows as if he had always been there. No doubt his fiancé was enjoying himself tremendously.

The second child of his family, according to Dill, was always trained as a master spy to support their sibling when they were crowned. Dill's sister had abdicated to run away and be an artist, leaving Dill as the surprising heir. It wouldn't do for the crown prince to keep scaring people like that. Two earls and a duchess had nearly had conniptions so far alone. Kan decided to intervene.

  1. Flying -

Poor Stephan to be left out of a love that accepts and includes him into their bonding. Having to wait until Benedict has pulled himself together enough to, if Stephan is lucky, verbally lay into him and/or throw him out into the cold.
I do hope that Benedict gives him answers about what all the horrified drama was about before he casts Stephan out, if he does. Who were the Others that allowed Reynaulght and Benedict to stay that Stephan overheard in their conversation near the beginning? Stephan is very vulnerable for all his magic.

    The Spy Game-

Yes, Kings are supposed to be of a presence with the Kingdom revolving around their hub. The hub is not supposed to pop up here and there as it pleases disrupting things. It’s destabilizing. Kan will be doing his loyal duty for Kingdom and King and enjoying being the fist around the King, steering him into a role he hasn’t been trained to.
Alternate Title: The Training of a King.
Sequel: How to train your King.
