FB3X Drabble Cascade #114 - word of the week is 'egg' (a chance to test and share your writing skills)

Fantasy Boys XXX Drabble Cascade

Welcome to FB3X Drabble Cascade #114 - This week's word of the week is 'egg'.

Suitable for all.
The Way A Cascade Works

it's really very simple, be inspired by our word of the week and just write :).

To see this week's entries check out the list at the bottom of this post. We put it behind a cut so it doesn't clog up your scrolling.

A drabble is a work of 100 words exactly. Flash fiction is a work of up to 500 words. Both may be submitted to the cascade. So What Can You Write? The simple answer is - anything! Our work here on FB3X will be erotically themed. but feel free to take the inspiration any way you want to, fiction, fanfiction, non-fiction, meta, since variety is the spice of life!

To those struck by inspiration (and no you don't have to be a professional writer to join in, anyone can embrace their inner author):
  • Below you will find a chance to join in the cascade in the form of a linked list
    • Write a drabble/flash fiction inspired by the word of the week.
    • Post the fiction to your own blog, social media, or website
    • Then insert a link into the linked list to that drabble/flash fiction for everyone to find (A hint of the genre of your drabble/flash fiction in the title of your post would be appreciated.), e.g. A Little Bit of Fun (PG, Science Fiction)
    • To encourage your friends to join in and hence cascade the fun, you can also add the list into your own post by copying the code.
  • OR you can just write us something in the comments :)
For folks who enjoy reading drabbles/flash fiction: you can then peruse the cascade to your heart's content :).

AND NOW - on to the fiction :)

Flight of Fire (Part 22) (PG, m/m, Fantasy)
by Sophie Duncan

Author's Note
I'm trying to do something a little different this year. For those of you who don't know, unless it's a week inspired by a holiday, or memorable occasion, our word of the week is picked by opening up a dictionary to a random location, waving a finger about without looking at the page and pointing it to a word, i.e. it's chance. So, this year, rather than standalone drabbles, I am going to try writing a coherent story, Flight of Fire, in 100 word episodes, each one inspired by the word of the week. I have a vague outline for characters and direction of Flight of Fire, but specifics will be decided by the word of the week.

I have to say, I was a little stumped on this one until I realised that we have the verb 'to egg on'', to encourage, and then everything slipped into place, because, that's what is going on in the story at the moment anyway :).

Stephan looked slowly upwards, his eyes running over scales of burnished bronze, awe swirling with magic in his chest. The fear held him for only a few seconds, power swamping it, and he stepped closer.

Air wafted past, a huge wing slipping round him. Stephan shivered at the brush of leathery strength that urged him yet closer. Holding out his hand to the armoured breast before him, Stephan closed his eyes, togetherness possessing him once more.

Strange magic coursed through him, compulsive, warm, needed.

“Hello,” he murmured.

‘Greetings, Sorcerer,’ the words reverberated through his head.

Nose humming, Stephan smiled.

Just A Vision Quest (PG, Fantasy)
by Natasha Duncan-Drake

Author's Note
People shouldn't pick up strange eggs - they have no idea what will happen ;)

~

You go into the mountain with nothing, you're supposed to come out with nothing; Niahl felt very awkward carrying an egg.

"Apprentice what is that?" Rathorn, master of ceremonies bellowed at him.

"It insisted," was all Niahl had to say.

He had tried to leave the egg behind, but from the moment he tripped over it he hadn't been able to put it down. Only he could find an egg on a vision quest.

"Rathorn," Adept Elise said in her usual calm tones, "have the dragons returned?"

Niahl didn't like the look of shock and dawning worry on Rathorn's face.

  1. Flight of Fire (#22): Will there be jealousy resulting from Stephan’s encroachment?
Watching the remake of King Kong it hurt that a romance between Kong and whatever her name was would never work. Even if the animal/human sex factor could be overcome, the size difference wouldn’t allow for their love to be consummated. Same here with big, bronze and scaled.
*smiles* I loved McCaffrey’s Pern novels too.

Just a Vision Quest: The idea that an egg could ‘attach’ itself to an apprentice and oohhh dragons. Now is Rathom worrying about; the return of dragons as in ‘humans are crunchy and taste good with catsup’, that the level of magic is rising as evidenced by the egg’s control of being brought out of the mountain , that Niahl might develop into a magical being beyond his ability to teach/control,

    1. If I say it's going to get interesting....I'll leave it at that. :) And yeah, it was always a shame about Kong and the love of his life being smaller than his d-er-hand :)
