FB3X Drabble Cascade #98 - word of the week is 'paw' (a chance to test and share your writing skills)

Fantasy Boys XXX Drabble Cascade

Welcome to FB3X Drabble Cascade #98 - This week's word of the week is 'paw'.

Suitable for all.
The Way A Cascade Works

it's really very simple, be inspired by our word of the week and just write :).

To see this week's entries check out the list at the bottom of this post. We put it behind a cut so it doesn't clog up your scrolling.

A drabble is a work of 100 words exactly. Flash fiction is a work of up to 500 words. Both may be submitted to the cascade. So What Can You Write? The simple answer is - anything! Our work here on FB3X will be erotically themed. but feel free to take the inspiration any way you want to, fiction, fanfiction, non-fiction, meta, since variety is the spice of life!

To those struck by inspiration (and no you don't have to be a professional writer to join in, anyone can embrace their inner author):
  • Below you will find a chance to join in the cascade in the form of a linked list
    • Write a drabble/flash fiction inspired by the word of the week.
    • Post the fiction to your own blog, social media, or website
    • Then insert a link into the linked list to that drabble/flash fiction for everyone to find (A hint of the genre of your drabble/flash fiction in the title of your post would be appreciated.), e.g. A Little Bit of Fun (PG, Science Fiction)
    • To encourage your friends to join in and hence cascade the fun, you can also add the list into your own post by copying the code.
  • OR you can just write us something in the comments :)
For folks who enjoy reading drabbles/flash fiction: you can then peruse the cascade to your heart's content :).

AND NOW - on to the fiction :)

Flight of Fire Part 06 (PG, m/m, Fantasy)

Author's Note
I'm trying to do something a little different this year. For those of you who don't know, unless it's a week inspired by a holiday, or memorable occasion, our word of the week is picked by opening up a dictionary to a random location, waving a finger about without looking at the page and pointing it to a word, i.e. it's chance. So, this year, rather than standalone drabbles, I am going to try writing a coherent story, Flight of Fire, in 100 word episodes, each one inspired by the word of the week. I have a vague outline for characters and direction of Flight of Fire, but specifics will be decided by the word of the week.

I had to sit and think about how to get 'paw' into the episode this week. It's not a word I would have used in my normal vocabulary, well, not outside the specific context of reference to an animal's body or actions. However, it eventually slotted in :)

~

Stephan dropped his head onto his knees, trying to breathe away the nightmare. Yet the sick terror of it pawed at his mind, its desolating claws digging at everything he had thought he knew.

“Who betrayed you?” the query came in deep tones from behind, but Stephan didn’t look, remaining hunched.

“My lover,” he replied, pain building in his chest.

There had been no time for grief in his desperate flight, but, as Stephan admitted that the man he had trusted the most in the world had tried to hobble him, the hurt had to come out. Helplessly, he sobbed.

Trespassing (PG, m/m, Fantasy)

Author's Note
Of course shifters popped into my head with a prompt like 'paw' :). Hope you all enjoy the fic this week.

Matt wasn't sure looking up would be a good idea because the hand he was staring at had definitely just been a paw. That meant he had strayed on to shifter land.

The treaty had held for years, but there were nightmare stories about horrible death for those who got caught over the border, even by accident.

He lifted his eyes slowly.

"Hello," said the very naked, very handsome man kneeling in front of him.

Not what Matt had expected at all.

"Hello," he replied.

"You're pretty for an outlander. Want to play?"

That was definitely not an innocent invitation.

  1. Loved the used of paw in Sophie Drabble this week. "Pretty for an outlander. Want play?" was very unique. Loved this weeks Drabble.

  2. Does Stephen still love his former lover? If he does it'll be difficult to kill the bastard without hurting Stephen more.

*grins* Oh Matt will enjoy his small death, le petite morte, if the very handsome were is talented in his 'play'.

    1. Now that's a question - I don't think even Stephan knows the answer to that yet.

  3. That's challenging - 100 word snippets. But, intriguing too. I wish you fun and luck on your adventure with Flight of Fire.

  4. Loved these drabbles this week. Flight Of Fire sounds like a larger novel just busting to get out there, and I liked the saucy invitation of "Want to play?" in Trespassing.

    1. It's an interesting format, because there are going to be times, as is currently the case, where the plot is advancing slowly, but I know there will also be parts that will leap along, so I'm hoping more for a novella waiting to get out, otherwise 100 word snippets will take a while :)

    2. Many thanks :) I imagine they will very much enjoy 'playing' together ;)

  5. It's also a great way of planting the seed of a novella that might not otherwise come about. I find it a really useful tool for pitching ideas to myself (if that doesn't sound too weird...)
