FB3X Drabble Cascade #64 - word of the week is 'year'

Fantasy Boys XXX Drabble Cascade

Welcome to FB3X Drabble Cascade #64 - This week's word of the week is 'year'.

Suitable for all.
The Way A Cascade Works

it's really very simple, be inspired by our word of the week and just write :).

To see this week's entries check out the list at the bottom of this post. We put it behind a cut so it doesn't clog up your scrolling.

A drabble is a work of 100 words exactly. Flash fiction is a work of up to 500 words. Both may be submitted to the cascade. So What Can You Write? The simple answer is - anything! Our work here on FB3X will be erotically themed. but feel free to take the inspiration any way you want to, fiction, fanfiction, non-fiction, meta, since variety is the spice of life!

To those struck by inspiration (and no you don't have to be a professional writer to join in, anyone can embrace their inner author):
  • Below you will find a chance to join in the cascade in the form of a linked list
    • Write a drabble/flash fiction inspired by the word of the week.
    • Post the fiction to your own blog, social media, or website
    • Then insert a link into the linked list to that drabble/flash fiction for everyone to find (A hint of the genre of your drabble/flash fiction in the title of your post would be appreciated.), e.g. A Little Bit of Fun (PG, Science Fiction)
    • To encourage your friends to join in and hence cascade the fun, you can also add the list into your own post by copying the code.
  • OR you can just write us something in the comments :)
For folks who enjoy reading drabbles/flash fiction: you can then peruse the cascade to your heart's content :).

AND NOW - on to the fiction :)

Free Will? (PG, m/m, Paranormal Fantasy)
by Sophie Duncan

Author's Note
When I saw 'year', I instantly thought, 'anniversary', and I let my muse run with it. :)

~
"Happy anniversary!" Col announced, placing a kiss on Veril's crown from behind.

Turning in his seat, Veril returned a sour look.

"You want to celebrate the day magic ripped away our free will and stuck us together?!"

Col shrugged, smiling.

"So you remembered."

Veril hrmphed, returning to his book.

"You've grown on me in a year."

"It's the magic, Merlin's little joke," Veril countered flatly.

"Merlin just got fed up with us avoiding each other," Col laughed, ruffling Veril's hair.

Veril shrugged off his lover with a tut. Maybe in another fifty years he'd get used to the annoying bastard.

 The Dragon Came (PG13, Fantasy)
by Natasha Duncan-Drake

Author's Note
The first line of this came to me and I knew I had to come up with a drabble to go with it. I very much hope you enjoy it.
~
A year ago I was a spoiled, unworthy prince.

Then the guardian dragon came.

When he chose me, for the first time in my life, someone told me I had to do something I did not wish to. It was eye opening.

I had no idea he would be so attractive in his human shape, nor that I would come to desire him above all else. At first it was a good thing dragons are immortal and invulnerable.

Now we are mated and I would willingly die for him.

I am still spoiled, but I hope now I am worthy.

  1. Awesome, both of them. They both sound like stories that have so much more to them.

    1. Some of these drabbles do sit in my brain and ruminate into bigger stories - I wonder if that means all my stories actually start off as drabbles, I just haven't written them all down...hmmm :)

  2. Free Will – Only if you’re into bondage does being forced to do something meet with enthusiastic approval even if it’s for your own good or you’d want it eventually. Having the freedom of choice taken away can be a greater barrier to loving someone than dancing around the fact that you love someone. Merlin goofed. This would be an interesting jumping off for a longer story, exploring what was Merlin’s real motive, what led up to this point, and how does it resolve if it ever does.

The Dragon Came – I love Dragons and again there’s the theme of this not being a sought after pairing initially. I’m assuming that the Prince will cease aging because he’s been mated to the Dragon or is this a periodic thing and the Dragon seeks for a new mate when the old one dies?

This: At first it was a good thing dragons are immortal and invulnerable. It implies that yes the Prince will age but the Dragon won’t. Does the Dragon then eat his mate because the next line Now we are mated and I would willingly die for him., if the Prince is willing to die for him that might mean that yes he does eat him, a sacrifice that keeps the Dragon immortal.

You both need more stories to write, yes? *GRINS* How do you manage to not go crazy trying to develop and finish one novel when the very next week another story might bite you to produce another?

    1. I have a very long list of story ideas, so I just have to look at it as an opportunity, that I know when I finish one novel (or perhaps the two (and a half) I have on the go at the moment) I have plenty more ideas to jump straight on into :D

  3. Awesome drabbles as always! The banter in the first one was just awesome! I'd love to read both of them as longer stories, because they've captured my interest. :)
