So the theme this week is 'friend' and so flatmates instantly jumped into my head. That and the 'we should just be friends' speech, so I combined them.

Lore was vibrating with anger as he walked into the flat and slammed the door."Didn't go well?" Ren, his flatmate, asked, having appeared in the hallway.
"That bastard," Lore all but exploded, "he gave me the friends speech, me! We should see other people. I bet he's already shagging someone else."
"My poor baby," Ren said giving him what he suspected was supposed to be a sympathetic look, "want me to eat him?"
Lore sagged and walked up to his friend, putting his head on Ren's shoulder so Ren could pet his hair.
"No," he said, "I wouldn't want you to take the risk."
"Aw, that's sweet," Ren replied, carefully putting an arm around him and guiding him into the living room; "it wouldn't be a risk."
For a fraction of a second Lore actually considered it.
"Thanks, but no thanks; I'd regret it in the morning."
"I could fix that too," Ren offered, sitting down with him and pulling him against a well muscled chest.
"Fix what?" Lore asked, getting comfortable.
"Your conscience; just a quick nip for me and a little sip for you and you wouldn't have to worry about morals for at least fifty years."
"You told me the maker is supposed to be the conscience," he pointed out.
"Well, yes," Ren replied, snaking fingers through his hair, "but all vampires are morally ambiguous. It's more a matter of staying out of trouble than actually caring usually, other than exceptional circumstances, of course."
Lore let his eyes close and relaxed as Ren petted him.
"Why did you pick me?" he asked after several minutes of contented silence.
"Well firstly because you like sex," Ren said and Lore opened his eyes again and gave his friend a look. "That was what attracted me," Ren protested. "Then I realised I liked you. You don't know how rare that is; most mortals annoy me like you would not believe. Of course the fact you worked out that I wasn't human helped."
"You could have just killed me, or whammied me."
"Oh, but the whole thing with the cross and the holy water was so cute; I knew you were a keeper."
"I was trying to ward you off."
"It was adorable."
Lore grinned and closed his eyes again. Living with a vampire was actually the best choice he had ever made. Ren was his best friend and sometimes protector and the closest to family he had had since he was eight. Of course their relationship was not always so familial.
"Since you're single again, want to have sex?" Ren asked just as Lore had expected.
"Hmmm, maybe later, keep doing that for now."

Sweet. He's living with someone as dangerous as can be and he feels safe and cared for and is able to discuss things that would normally squick things but doesn't between them.
ReplyDeleteIt's almost brotherly with a dash of what would be incest if it were brotherly. Morality be damned. Ren's not even possessive that Lore had a lover, he's just there for picking up the pieces and/or getting a piece. Waiting game? Maybe.
Thank you and yep, you totally get what I was going for :). Ren can afford the waiting game because he's pretty sure sooner or later Lore is going to say yes to the whole vampire thing and then they'll have eternity.
Delete*snort* This was wonderful from beginning to end, but I especially liked how Ren found Lore's attempts to ward him off adorable. :D
